On November 23, 2018, for the first time, Florence will celebrate the Fibonacci Day, thanks to the initiative of two scientific museums in the city, the Museo Galileo and Il Giardino di Archimede – Un Museo per la Matematica, with a meeting open to everybody, but aimed specifically to secondary schools.
After Luigi Dei welcoming the audience, Leonardo Brunetti, Pierfrancesco Cecconi and Giuseppe Conti, inspired by the Fibonacci studies, will cope with fascinating and surprising aspects of the world of mathematics:
Leonardo Brunetti and Pierfrancesco Cecconi: Storie di conigli, corna di rinoceronte e cavolfiori.
Giuseppe Conti: La successione di Fibonacci nella natura e nell’arte.
The event, with the support of Regione Toscana, will be held in Italian and will be enriched by an art installation by Stella Battaglia inspired by the Fibonacci sequence.
The Fibonacci Day will also take place on November 26th, 2018.
Leonardo Fibonacci, born in Pisa around 1175, was one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. A merchant and a mathematician, in 1202 Fibonacci published his Liber Abaci and introduced in Europe the decimal numerical system and major calculation systems, helping to spread mathematics in Western culture.
