Thematic Collections
The creation of the thematic digital library entitled “Il mondo in tasca” (The world in my pocket) is part of the cooperation between the Museo Galileo and the MUMEC - Museo dei Mezzi di Comunicazione in Arezzo. It is also part of a rich calendar of events marking several key anniversaries, namely the 150th anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi’s birth, the 100th anniversary of Italian radio broadcasting, and the 70th anniversary of Italian television.
The project, which developed out of a collaboration between the Museo Galileo and the Accademia dei Georgofili, aims to illustrate some aspects of the transformations that have occurred within Italian agriculture over the course of the twentieth century.

The digital library aims to offer a collection of resources that testify to the role and presence of women in astronomy studies and research, and on the images that are most frequently used in representations of the cosmos from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century.
The digital library dedicated to the controversy over comets reconstructs the historical, iconographic, and textual atmosphere of the heated debate, from 1618 to 1626, sparked by the appearance of three celestial bodies in the sky. Natural philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers investigated and argued over the composition, position, and movement of these “celestial splendors.”
