The exhibition "La Colonna Traiana. Il racconto di un simbolo" (The Trajan Column. The Narration of a Symbol), which is the result of the collaboration between the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo and Museo Galileo, is opening today at the Colosseo in the presence of the Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano. The exhibition will be open to the public from December 22, 2023 to April 30, 2024.
The exhibition narrates the toil and ingenuity of men who extracted tons of marble from the Apuan Alps then conveyed to the port of Luni, where huge ships were ready to sail to Rome. A work of engineering of unprecedented complexity, the construction of Trajan's Column testifies to the lofty heights reached by Roman civilization in the art of building.
The exhibition builds on, and expands on, "The Art of Building a Masterpiece. The Trajan Column," the exhibition that Museo Galileo conceived and realized in 2019, together with Gallerie degli Uffizi, in the Boboli Gardens.
