The museum’s ground floor has been renovated

The new layout of the museum’s ground floor was inaugurated yesterday, Monday, July 3^rd, in the presence of the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, Alessandra Petrucci, Rector of the University of Florence and Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence, with Eugenio Giani, President of Regione Toscana. It includes a renovated welcome area, a multimedia room and an interactive room.

The introductory room has been enriched with new elements that introduce a conscious exploration of the collections: videos, maps, and attractive graphic communication to stimulate attention towards the instruments on display.

In the exit route, visitors can find a multimedia room, an interactive room, and two exhibition rooms dedicated to mechanical watchmaking. The multimedia room is designed to explore some of the many web applications made by our Multimedia Lab and other collaborators: movies and animations available on a touch screen and projected on a wall. In the interactive room, replicas of Galilean instruments on falling bodies, acceleration, and time measurement allow visitors to experience the physical and mechanical principles behind these instruments.

Finally, the other two rooms display tower, table and wall clocks, a nucleus of the collection only partially displayed to the public so far, but worthy of being properly enhanced.

The new layout was made possible thanks to a Program Agreement between Museo Galileo and the Ministry of University and Research with grants provided by Law 113/1991.
