On Saturday, April 22, at 7:00 p.m., the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Sala Ospiti (viale Pietro de Coubertin 10, Rome) will host “Storie di automi: dal movimento al sogno” (Stories of automata: From movement to dreams), a talk by Giovanni Di Pasquale (Museo Galileo), Umberto Maniscalco (CNR–Istituto di Calcolo e Reti ad Alte Prestazioni) and Alessandra Sciutti (Contact Lab IIT). Science journalist Giorgio Sestili will chair the debate.
Robots have been populating our collective imaginary since ancient times, long before the term “robot” appeared, in the early 20th century. While the peculiarity of the first automata was autonomous movement, today’s artificial beings are able to make complex calculations, challenge chess champions, try to hold credible conversations, and maybe get ready to dream. It seems somehow that, in robotics, reality is overcoming imaginary.
Museo Galileo is taking part in the Rome Science Festival for the third time in a row. This year’s edition is dedicated to the theme “Imaginaries”.
The event will be held in Italian.
