Dalla conoscenza alla pratica scientificaCarlo Saitta. Alchimie di colori al Museo Galileo
November 26, 11 a.m.
Museo Galileo dedicates an event to the Florentine papermaking technique and to Carlo Saitta, a master craftsman who generously introduced us to the art of marbling. The workshop will be focused on the close connection between craftsmanship and science: people will be able to discover this ancient art, where wisely dosed colours and glues will create marvellous decorated papers, like those used in the past to cover ancient telescopes. Participants will witness the process of making small masterpieces.

Coloriamo l’energia
December 3, 11 a.m.
A workshop to trace the history of energy from the production of electrical charges thanks to the first electrostatic machines to modern photovoltaic cells made with… blueberries! At the end of the workshop, it will be possible to admire the original 18th century electrostatic machines.
In collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry of OrganoMetallic Compounds (ICCOM) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Florence.

Magneti volanti, un percorso tra letteratura e scienza
December 17, 11 a.m.
Taking a cue from Swift’s ‘flying island’ of Laputa, which rises and falls by means of a huge magnet, the workshop will show, through curious experiments, the basic principles of magnetism up to modern magnetic levitation technologies. Special attention will be paid to the present-day utility of rare earth-based magnets and recycling activities to lower the environmental and economic impact due to the use of these materials.
In collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry of OrganoMetallic Compounds (ICCOM) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Florence.

Saturdays at 11.00 a.m.

Cost: included in the museum's entrance fee
