The Italian Renaissance of Machines (Harvard University Press, 2020) by Prof. Paolo Galluzzi, Honorary President of the Museo Galileo, is the 2022 recipient of the prestigious Lewis Mumford Award for Outstanding Book on the Ecology of Technics.
The book retraces the crucial role played in the 15th century by Italian artist-engineers, like Taccola and Francesco di Giorgio, in the construction of the architectural and technical “miracle” of the city of Siena, and Da Vinci’s pioneering vision of the urban space as a living organism and a perfect machine.
The prize is awarded annually by the Media Ecology Association.
The 2022 award winner has been announced on July 9 during the annual meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
