On June 27 and 28, the weekend will be dedicated to one of the most important treasures of the Medici collections: Galileo's telescope.
Saturday afternoon (at 3.00, 4.00 and 5.00 pm) and Sunday (at 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and at 2.00 and 3.00 pm) Galileo himself will welcome visitors (in Italian): a close encounter not to be missed, at the cost of the entrance ticket.
The Tuscan scientist will tell how he first came across with the telescope (the new toy of Dutch origin that was on sale in the fairs of many cities around 1609), he will show how he built his own specimen, revealing the secrets of lens making and retracing the extraordinary human and scientific adventure after pointing it to the sky.
In Galileo’s hands, the object became in fact an instrument of scientific investigation and marked a milestone for the development of knowledge.
The Museo Galileo remains open to visitors during phase 3, and at least until mid-July, on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9.30 to 6.00 pm.
Due to the current sanitary measures, access is limited: reservations are highly recommended and are to be made at +39 055 265311 (from 9.30 to 6.00 pm).
