Le porte del cielo. Percorsi di luce nelle chiese romaniche toscane
by Simone Bartolini
Edizioni Polistampa, 2017
This book arises from the need for recovering something special—but too long sunk into oblivion—inside Romanesque churches, that is the symbolism of light for early Christians, especially at dawn and sunset during the spring equinoxes and solstices. The Author leads readers through an amazing journey to discover slits, rose windows, altars, and pillars of 44 churches in Tuscany. The book shows, also thanks to striking colour illustrations, the lighting system of each church considered, or the architectural solutions that builders adopted in order to arrange the sacred space.
Speakers: the Author, Roberto Lunardi (art historian) and Giuseppina Carla Romby (Professor of the History of Architecture, University of Florence).
The event will be held in Italian.
