From the “Specola” to Arcetri

The Museo Galileo has collaborated on the exhibition organized by the Natural History Museum, the Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Florence and the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, in association with the City of Florence Historical Archives, the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, the National Institute of Optics, the University of Florence Science Library, and the “Pianeta Galileo” Project.
The exhibition features pictures, documents and instruments that reconstruct the major stages in the development of both branches of science in Florence, from the opening of the Imperial and Royal Museum of Physics and Natural History in 1775 until the eve of World War Two. The display is divided in three parts, which are shown in different places inside the “La Specola” Museum, included two monuments of special importance to the history of astronomy and physics in Florence: the so-called “Torrino” (small observation tower) and the Tribune of Galileo.
