Did you know that our famous Galileo Galilei was a true “foodie” in his time. He loved excellent food, wine and sweets. In particular his favorite sweets were those prepared by his oldest daughter, Virginia, who became Sister Maria Celeste when she entered into the San Matteo Convent located near his home at the time in Arcetri.
The convent, in fact, was situated very close to the villa named “Il Gioiello” which translates into “The Jewel” in English. The great scientist passed the final years of his life under house arrest in this villa. If you have a sweet tooth like Galileo did, then you might want to try out some of these simple, traditional Tuscan recipes.
