The virtual exhibition examines the role played by a little-known late ancient thinker in the shaping of the modern conception of space.
The initiative forms part of the JOPHIL project, funded by the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, GA 101103629, PI: Tommaso De Robertis). It has been developed through a collaboration between the Museo Galileo, the University of Macerata, and the University of Toronto.
The exhibition comprises eight videos: three devoted to Philoponus’s thought and works; two to the recovery of his writings (particularly his commentary on Aristotle’s Physics) in Renaissance Europe; and three to the impact of his ideas on early modern European science.
