This exhibition is a significant stage in the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza’s commitment to promote recovery, cataloguing and restoration of scientific instruments since scientific evidence of great historical importance has been lost in the past due to the lack of this sort of care. Scientific instruments and apparatus, which have been restored for this very occasion, are on display. Among them, special emphasis is to be given to the valuable 17th-century frame holding the objective lens with which Galileo observed Jupiter’s moons as well as 18th-century rare celestial and terrestrial globes and exquisite Accademia del Cimento’s glassware. The exhibition also illustrates basic principles and techniques of restoration applied to different materials.
