This exhibition shows twenty-five precious clocks which Tommaso Ruscitti recently donated to the Museo di Storia della Scienza. Most of them are pocket watches made by very prestigious European clockmakers between the late 16th and 19th centuries. The collection includes two 17th-century table-clocks and a carriage clock of English make. Visitors can appreciate the aesthetic features of the magnificent instruments on display as well as the significance of scientific and technical knowledge which made these clocks possible. Actually, through the 17th and 18th centuries clockmakers in France, Germany and England developed new mechanical devices such as springs, gears, balance-wheels, etc. which led to constantly smaller and more precise timepieces. The Ruscitti Collection is at present on display in the museum’s permanent exhibition .
