This exhibition is part of a wider project started in 2006 with the show called Santa Maria Nuova e gli Uffizi. Vicende di un patrimonio nascosto (Santa Maria Nuova Hospital and the Uffizi Gallery: Story of an Unknown Heritage), which is aimed to preserve and improve the artistic historical heritage of the most ancient hospital in Florence. The final objective is to create a museum inside the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital where both artistic and historical scientific collections can be shown. The artworks on display are part of the rich body of artistic and devotional objects belonging to the church of Sant’Egidio, close to the Hospital. Dating between the 16th and 19th centuries, they include vestments, holy vessels, reliquaries, and wooden crucifixes.
